Camphor Laurel

Size of tree and type of forest/location: Large hardwood widely distributed in south-east Asia, China and Japan. Originally grown in Australia as an ornamental tree.
Description of wood: Heartwood very variable in colour from pale to mid brown, often streaked with darker brown or red. Texture moderately fine and even. Grain usually interlocked.
Dry density kg/m3: 550
Workability: Easy to work.
Durability: Class 3
Use: Clothes storage cabinets, decorative veneer, carvings.
Availability: Not in commercial quantities
