Size of tree and type of forest/location: African timber
Description of wood: The clearly defined heartwood is dark brown, with very close, fine, almost black veins. It is fairly straight grained with a coarse texture.
Dry density kg/m3: 880
Workability: Works fairly well with machine tools and with a moderate blunting effect to cutting edges. Nailing is difficult and requires pre-boring. Resin cells in the timber sometimes interferes with gluing and polishing.
Durability:
Use: Flooring, internal and exterior joinery and general construction, turnery, panelling, decorative veneers, marquetry.
Availability: Commercially available
