Oak - Silky

Size of tree and type of forest/location: Medium to large hardwood of the north Queensland rainforest.
Description of wood: Heartwood pale pinkish brown darkening on exposure. Texture rather coarse. Straight grain. Rays prominent.
Dry density kg/m3: 550
Workability: Relatively easy to work.
Durability: Class 3/4
Use: Furniture, plywood, joinery.
Availability: Rare.
The majority of Silky Oak commercially available today is from South America and is commonly known as Lacewood. The properties and physical looks of Lacewood is similar to Silky Oak.
