Size of tree and type of forest/location: A medium to large softwood of the high rainfall areas of western Tasmania
Description of wood: Heartwood pink to pale reddish brown which fades on exposure. Sapwood narrow and not readily distinguishable. Texture fine but uneven due to harder latewood. Grain straight.
Dry density kg/m3: 400
Workability: When free of compression wood is easy to work and steam bend. Glues satisfactorily.
Durability: Class 2
Use: Boatbuilding, vats, external joinery and furniture, sounding boards for piano’s and violins
